Transfer Degrees and Major Programs

Butte College students may transfer to universities to complete their bachelor's degree work. The success record of transfer students is as good or better than students who enroll in the university as entering freshmen. The College's transfer programs offer coursework which can meet lower division General Education requirements for the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. An extensive program of articulated coursework guarantees course equivalency between Butte College and four-year institutions in most major programs. Transfer students arrive at the University as fully-prepared students with junior standing. Transfer students should use the community college to complete their lower division General Education requirements, lower division major preparation courses and, when necessary, complete skill development work in Math, Reading, and English which prepares them for success in university-level courses. Articulation agreements with various UC and CSU systems can be obtained in the Counseling Office, Transfer Center or on the website: www.assist.org. Students planning to transfer should consult a counselor for program planning purposes.

Career and Technical Education Programs

Butte College offers Career and Technical Education programs designed to prepare students for a career or occupation. These programs offer the student education and training in selected career fields. Many certificates of achievement combined with General Education units prepare the student for an Associate Degree. Specialty courses are offered for students in need of re-certification in many fields.

Certificates of Achievement

These programs are for students who want to take all their work in specialized employment preparatory courses. Upon obtaining a Certificate of Achievement, the student can enter skilled employment or continue additional education for an Associate Degree. Certificates of Achievement are given to indicate a satisfactory level of achievement in selecting programs requiring less than two years of full-time study. Some programs require full-time registration; others may be completed over an extended period of time in the regular day or evening classes. Certificate of Achievement programs are comprised of either a complete curriculum pattern or courses selected from an Associate Degree curriculum on the recommendation of the appropriate advisory committee.

Certificates

Other certificates are given to indicate a student's satisfactory completion of short-term courses or programs, such as the Certificate in Early Childhood Education.
